Saratoga Yearling Sale Sets Another Record at Fasig-Tipton
In the world of horse racing, the Saratoga yearling sale hosted by Fasig-Tipton has once again proven to be a resounding success. Following last week’s record-breaking Saratoga Sale, the New York-bred yearlings sale delivered a near-record gross, pushing Fasig-Tipton’s Saratoga summer sales gross over the $100 million mark for the first time.
Presented as a selection of “New York’s Finest” yearlings, the New York-bred yearlings sale also set a new record median. Fasig-Tipton president Boyd Browning expressed his enthusiasm, stating:
“It was a very encouraging week. We started last Monday at 6:30 (EDT), we finished this week on Monday at about 5, and in that week we sold over $100 million worth of horses. It’s a pretty significant accomplishment.”
The final session of the New York-bred yearlings sale continued the trend of enthusiastic participation, with several standout performances. Klaravich Stable secured the session and sale topper, going to $370,000 for a colt by Quality Road. Consigned by Winter Quarter Farm, the bay colt is a full brother to stakes winner Derrynane and hails from the immediate family of Grade 1 winner Mitterand.
The top filly of the session and sale was a daughter of Connect, who sold for $300,000 to West Bloodstock, agent for Repole Stable. Consigned by Eaton Sales, the filly is out of graded-stakes winner Georgie’s Angel and is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Cave Rock.
Other notable sales included a colt by Yaupon, who sold for $275,000 to trainer Michael J. Maker, and a colt by Not This Time, who fetched $270,000 from Adelphi Racing Club and Chief Horse Futures.
Over the course of two days, 182 yearlings were sold for a total of $19,095,000, the third-highest gross in the sale’s history. The average price was $104,920, up 9.4% from the previous year, and the median rose 18.7% to a new sale record of $86,500.
This remarkable success at the Saratoga yearling sale highlights the continued strength and enthusiasm in the New York-bred racing market, as well as the enduring appeal of Fasig-Tipton’s prestigious Saratoga summer sales event.
