Jockey Will Price Lands Coveted Stradbroke Handicap Ride Aboard Roll On High
Jockey Will Price has been rewarded for his efforts at the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman stable by securing the ride aboard Roll On High in the prestigious Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap. The three-year-old filly earned her spot in the 1400m feature race after a commanding victory in the Group 3 Fred Best Classic at Eagle Farm on June 1.
Jockey’s Previous Group 1 Experience
This will be Price’s fifth Group 1 ride, having previously competed in two Melbourne and two Adelaide Group 1 events, with a best finish of third on Nobel Heights in the 2021 South Australian Derby.
“Will does a bit of riding and a good bit of work at home for us,” Moody commented. “He will ride the weight comfortably and can have a three-course meal. He won’t be lacking for anything when the ride comes around.”
Postponing a Trip to Focus on the Opportunity
The jockey was initially scheduled to depart for a trip to Bali on Sunday, but has postponed his plans to focus on the opportunity to pilot Roll On High in the Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Roll On High’s Condition and Handicap
Roll On High currently carries 49.5kg, but with Bella Nipotina topweighted at 55.5kg, the weights are likely to rise by 1.5kg or 2kg depending on her final acceptance. Regardless, the Moody and Coleman-trained filly enters the race in peak condition, aiming to become the first three-year-old filly since La Montagna to claim the coveted Stradbroke Handicap title.
“She’s in good order and pulled-up well from getting the ‘Golden Ticket’ last week,” Moody said, referring to the filly’s impressive victory in the Fred Best Classic that secured her spot in the Group 1 event.
Conclusion
All eyes will be on the talented young jockey and his mount as they seek to make history in this weekend’s Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm.
