Royal Ascot 2024: Karl Burke Reveals Stellar Lineup, Including Irish 1,000 Guineas Winner Fallen Angel and Commonwealth Cup Hopeful Elite Status

Renowned racehorse trainer Karl Burke has unveiled his impressive stable lineup for the highly anticipated Royal Ascot 2024 meeting. The Middleham-based trainer is brimming with confidence after an exceptional start to the year, highlighted by his Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas triumph with the talented filly Fallen Angel.

In an exclusive interview, Burke shared his excitement and detailed insights into his star-studded Royal Ascot team, which includes the likes of Fallen Angel, the Commonwealth Cup contender Elite Status, and a host of other promising horses.

“We have a lot of chances, but it’s a nightmare of a place to go,” Burke admitted. “You think you’ve got your horses absolutely on song, and you come back home up the A1 with your tail between your legs. But this season couldn’t have gone much better really, and I’m very happy with the way things have gone generally.”

Fallen Angel: Targeting the Coronation Stakes

Fallen Angel, the impressive Irish 1,000 Guineas winner, is set to take aim at the prestigious Coronation Stakes. Burke praised the filly’s resilience and believes the Royal Ascot track and better ground conditions will suit her perfectly.

“She’s a very high-class filly. Obviously, we were very happy with the English Guineas, but to go and win the Irish Guineas is a big achievement. I think the run just sharpened her up mentally as much as anything,” Burke explained.

Elite Status: Bouncing Back in the Jersey Stakes

Joining Fallen Angel is the Commonwealth Cup hopeful, Elite Status. The colt, who disappointed in the Guineas, has been working well and is expected to bounce back in the Jersey Stakes. Burke is confident that the son of Zoustar has the speed and cruising ability to excel over the six-furlong trip.

Other Notable Entries

Other notable entries in Burke’s Royal Ascot lineup include the progressive Native Warrior, who is being targeted for the Britannia Stakes, and the talented Caviar Heights, who could take on the big guns in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes.

As Burke prepares his squad for the prestigious five-day meeting, he remains cautiously optimistic, acknowledging the challenges of the Royal Ascot stage. However, with the proven talent and form of his horses, the seasoned trainer is hopeful of adding to his impressive tally of winners at the iconic racecourse.
