Royal Ascot Preview: Fahey Readies Quality Juveniles for Wathnan Racing
Renowned racehorse trainer Richard Fahey is gearing up for an exciting start to this year’s prestigious Royal Ascot meeting, as he prepares to saddle three promising juvenile prospects for Wathnan Racing over the first two days of the event.
Tuesday Runners:
CATALYSE – 3:05 PM, Coventry Stakes
Fahey has been pleased with Catalyse’s progress since the colt’s recent victory at Hamilton. “Catalyse has been very good since he won at Hamilton, we’ve been pleased with him,” said the trainer. While acknowledging the highly competitive nature of the Coventry Stakes, Fahey is confident his charge will improve from his debut run. “Whether that’s good enough we will see,” he noted, drawing parallels to the yard’s previous success at Royal Ascot with juveniles such as Perfect Power.
COLUMNIST – 3:05 PM, Coventry Stakes
Columnist, another Fahey-trained juvenile, put in a solid performance at Chester, and the trainer believes the big, powerful colt has the potential to run well, despite not being as straightforward as his stablemate Catalyse. “He’s done nothing wrong and I was impressed with him at Chester,” Fahey remarked, highlighting jockey James Doyle’s choice to ride Catalyse as a testament to the quality of both colts.
Wednesday Runner:
SHADOW ARMY – 6:15 PM, Windsor Castle Stakes
Fahey is particularly excited about the prospects of Shadow Army, who overcame a slow start to win impressively at York. The trainer has been working on the colt’s stalls performance in preparation for the Windsor Castle Stakes. “I had him working coming out of the stalls Sunday morning and he was grand, so hopefully that’s a box ticked with him,” Fahey said. While acknowledging the challenges of a large field, the trainer is confident in Shadow Army’s abilities and believes the horse will continue to improve following his York triumph. “If I had to pick my best two-year-old right now it would probably be him,” Fahey concluded.
