Horse Racing News: Santa Anita Contender Heads to Royal Ascot
In a notable development for horse racing enthusiasts, a Santa Anita standout is set to make waves at the historic Royal Ascot meet in England. Missed the Cut, trained by John Sadler, departed for Ascot on Wednesday to compete in the prestigious Hardwicke Stakes (G2) on June 22.
This winter, Missed the Cut, a 5-year-old Quality Road horse, found success at Santa Anita, winning both the San Marcos (G3) in February and the San Luis Rey (G3) on March 23. The gelding’s most recent outing saw him finish second in the Elkhorn Stakes (G2) at Keeneland on April 20.
This will not be Missed the Cut’s first venture to the esteemed Royal Ascot meet. In 2022, the Kentucky-bred made his initial six starts in England, which included a victory in a handicap race at the prestigious event. The decision to import Missed the Cut to the U.S. the following year was with the intention of transitioning him to a dirt horse. He would go on to make four starts on the main track in 2023, including a win in the Tokyo City Cup (G3) at 1 1/2 miles at Santa Anita, prior to a last-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at the same venue on November 4. Since then, he has not raced on dirt.
“Missed the Cut boasts an impressive overall record of 16 starts, with 7 wins, 3 seconds, and 0 thirds, and earnings of $512,277. He is co-owned by Bee Zee, Lane’s End Racing, and St. Elias Stables, among others.”
As Santa Anita racegoers eagerly await updates from the Royal Ascot meet, all eyes will be on Missed the Cut and his quest for glory on the international stage.
