Shareholder Primed for Prix Morny Challenge

Newmarket, UK – Jockey James Doyle is set to travel to North Yorkshire this week to put Shareholder through his paces as the exciting juvenile racehorse prepares for a tilt at the prestigious Prix Morny at Deauville on August 18.

Shareholder, trained by Karl Burke, formed part of the successful Royal Ascot squad for Wathnan Racing earlier this season, dazzling in the iconic peacock blue and old gold colors when storming to victory in the Norfolk Stakes. The €460,000 breeze-up purchase has been given a well-deserved rest following his exploits at the royal meeting and is now poised to be put through his final preparations by Wathnan’s retained rider ahead of the Group 1 challenge in France.

“Shareholder is in great nick. Karl says he’s grown and strengthened, and we obviously gave him a break after Ascot which he needed,” said Richard Brown, European racing advisor for the owners. “It’s all systems go for the Morny, hopefully. James is going to ride him work this week and it will be the first time he has sat on him since Ascot. As long as everything goes smoothly with that, it is very much the Morny next.”

The young colt’s impressive debut victory at Beverley, followed by his dominant display in the Norfolk Stakes, has connections excited about Shareholder’s potential over the six-furlong trip of the Prix Morny.

“He’s a very exciting colt who has already given us a massive day, and now we will see what he can do over six furlongs,” added Brown. “We’re hoping over six he will have an electric turn of foot.”

The Prix Morny, a prestigious French Group 1 race for two-year-olds, will provide a true test of Shareholder’s abilities as he steps up in distance and class. Trainers and fans alike will be eagerly anticipating the performance of this talented youngster as he aims to add another big-race victory to his burgeoning reputation.
