Horse Racing News: Shouldvebeenaring Misses Prix Maurice de Gheest Due to Respiratory Infection
In a setback for the connections of talented sprinter Shouldvebeenaring, the horse missed Sunday’s prestigious Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville due to a respiratory infection similar to one that ruled out stablemate Rosallion from the Sussex Stakes last week.
Richard Hannon, the trainer of both Shouldvebeenaring and Rosallion, was forced to withdraw the latter from the Goodwood highlight after a routine tracheal wash revealed a respiratory infection. Unfortunately, the same issue has now sidelined Shouldvebeenaring, who was considered one of the favorites for the Group 1 contest in Deauville.
“Whatever Rosallion had, he had the same thing,” explained Tim Palin of Middleham Park Racing, the owners of Shouldvebeenaring. “The reading showed that a respiratory infection was on the way, we were on the same trajectory as Rosallion and we are pretty sure a respiratory infection was coming on.”
Hannon made the difficult decision to turn the horse around before he could even reach the racetrack in France, with Palin acknowledging the missed opportunity. “It’s frustrating, as we believed that was one of his best shots at a Group One,” he said.
However, the owners and trainer remain optimistic, with Shouldvebeenaring now being targeted for the Haydock Sprint Cup, where the division is said to be “wide open.” Rosallion, on the other hand, is expected to be aimed at the Prix du Moulin, though Hannon is taking a cautious approach to ensure the horse is fully recovered.
Despite the setbacks, the connections remain hopeful that both horses will be able to return to action and challenge for top-level prizes in the coming weeks and months. Horse racing enthusiasts will be eagerly anticipating their comebacks and the continued development of these talented racehorses.
