Speedster Set for Nunthorpe Challenge After Ascot Heartbreak
York, [Current Date] – The horse racing world has been abuzz with the exploits of a talented sprinter who has taken the sport by storm this season. After a consistent campaign last year, this equine athlete has taken his performances to new heights, and he now has his sights set on the prestigious Nunthorpe Stakes at the Ebor meeting.
Consistent Campaign and Impressive Performances
The Kevin Ryan-trained speedster made a winning return in the Abernant Stakes at Newmarket, before putting in a commendable effort in defeat at York. He then traveled ominously well in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, only for his stamina to let him down in the closing stages.
Reverting to the Minimum Distance
Connections have now decided to revert to the minimum distance, a decision made easier by the impressive victory of stablemate Inisherin in the Commonwealth Cup over six furlongs. This move could prove to be a masterstroke, as the horse has already shown his prowess over five furlongs, having been narrowly beaten on three previous occasions at York.
“He’s just showing increasing speed now and he showed us that in the Duke of York,” said Cosmo Charlton, racing manager for owners Hambleton Racing. “We always thought he might end up being a five-furlong horse and it did concern us that stiff six furlongs at Ascot. We decided to hold onto him a bit at Ascot and maybe he was a touch keen with doing that as well, he just ran out of gas.”
Jockey Tom Eaves, who rode the horse at Ascot, believes that the drop back to five furlongs is the right call. “Tom got off and said back to five, so it’s straight to the Nunthorpe,” Charlton added.
The Nunthorpe Stakes Awaits
The Nunthorpe Stakes, a Group 1 event, is one of the highlights of the Ebor meeting and will provide the perfect stage for this sprinter to showcase his talents. With the support of the Kevin Ryan stable and the confidence of his connections, he will undoubtedly be one of the horses to watch in the race.
