Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott Stable Preps Two-Year-Olds for Spring Riches

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable is gearing up to bring two of last season’s leading two-year-olds to Melbourne in search of spring racing success.

Golden Slipper Winner Lady Of Camelot Aims for The Everest

Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot is expected to launch her tilt at The Everest, the prestigious Group 1 sprint, in the Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley next month. Meanwhile, Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Storm Boy will start off in Sydney before being aimed at the prestigious Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

Both gallopers were put through their paces in trials at Randwick on Monday, with Storm Boy proving victorious while Lady Of Camelot was narrowly beaten in her heat over 850m.

Storm Boy Likely to Wear Blinkers for Spring Riches

Waterhouse, spotted at Moonee Valley on Tuesday morning overseeing track gallops, revealed that Storm Boy is likely to wear blinkers when he makes his reappearance. The colt is expected to resume in the Group 2 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill on September 14, before stepping up to the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) two weeks later at the same venue. He will then be transferred to Melbourne for a tilt at the Caulfield Guineas.

“I think he’s more a miler and I think you’ll see him really come to hand over a mile,” Waterhouse commented. “Yesterday was his first trial and he just won it on the post. He was a bit casual in his trial, so we might put a set of blinkers on him.”

Waterhouse believes the Caulfield Guineas is a vital “stallion making race,” especially for those looking to establish influence in the European breeding market.

“If you want to make a stallion, you have to come to the Caulfield Guineas, that and the Coolmore Stud Stakes (up the straight) and the Golden Rose, they’re the stallion making races, for the sprinter and the middle-distance colts,” she said.

Lady Of Camelot to Have Moonee Valley Experience Before Moir Stakes

As for Lady Of Camelot, Waterhouse plans to give the filly an experience at Moonee Valley ahead of the Moir Stakes on September 7. Lady Of Camelot was narrowly denied in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in her only Melbourne appearance last season.

“We’ll get her fit in Sydney first before we bring her down,” Waterhouse explained. “She had her first trial yesterday at Randwick and then we’ll give her another trial and then we’ll bring her down. I would love her in The Everest and (owner) Sir Owen (Glenn) would love her there too.”
