Headlining the Whitney is National Treasure, who is looking to build on his authoritative win in the Met Mile (G1) last time out. Trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Flavien Prat, the Quality Road colt will face a stern challenge from a number of logical contenders, including First Mission, Bright Future, and Skippylongstocking.

Key Contenders

  • First Mission, trained by Brad Cox with Florent Geroux aboard, finished fourth in the recent Stephen Foster (G1) and will try to bounce back with a top effort in the Whitney.
  • Todd Pletcher trainees Bright Future and Charge It will also garner attention.
  • The Saffie Joseph, Jr.-trained Skippylongstocking was third in the Stephen Foster.

Other Horses to Watch

  • Warrior Johny, who comes in off a win at Saratoga for trainer Philip Bauer.
  • The Todd Pletcher-trained duo of Crupi and Arthur’s Ride. Trainer William Mott sends out Arthur’s Ride, a recent allowance winner at the Spa.
