Stradivarius Shines as a Stallion at the National Stud
Newmarket, UK – The exceptional stayer Stradivarius, son of the legendary Sea The Stars, has transitioned from a champion racehorse to a rising star stallion at the National Stud. The 10-year-old champion, who amassed almost £3.5 million in prize money and a European record 18 Group-level wins during his illustrious on-track career, is now the centerpiece of the stud’s stallion roster.
Excelling at Royal Ascot
Expertly handled by the Gosden training team, Stradivarius won at the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting for four consecutive years between 2017 and 2020, cementing his status as one of the most popular Flat performers of modern times. Now, the team at the National Stud, including Head of Bloodstock Joe Bradley, are overseeing Stradivarius’ next chapter as he embarks on his stud duties.
“He’s doing brilliantly, and it takes any stallion some time to get used to their new surroundings, new routine, new job, but he’s very much into his routine now and is a very happy horse, which is very important,” said Bradley.
Settling into Stud Life
Stradivarius has made himself right at home at the National Stud, with Bradley describing the chestnut as having a “massive personality” and being “first out onto the walker, first out into the paddock, first into the shed.” The stud has also implemented a generous bonus structure to encourage breeders to support the proven champion, with £25,000 for the first 10 two-year-old winners, £100,000 for a Group Two or Three victory, and a £250,000 bonus for a Group One win.
“There is a very strong bank of breeding rights owners who support the horse every year, and the breeders involved are renowned,” Bradley added. “We are heading to the foal sales in December with some very nice foals, and some really good owner-breeders will have their own stock to race as well.”
Captivating Fans
Stradivarius’ popularity has transcended the racing industry, with the National Stud welcoming both bloodstock insiders and casual visitors eager to catch a glimpse of the beloved champion. His tenacity and intelligence, exemplified by his maiden victory at Newcastle, have endeared him to fans, and Bradley believes these qualities will translate well to his stud career.
As Stradivarius settles into his new role, the racing world eagerly awaits the debut of his first crop of offspring, with the lucrative bonus structure set to add an extra layer of excitement when they hit the track.
