Sydney Jockey Rachel King to Lead Rest of the World Team at Prestigious Shergar Cup in Ascot

In a significant development in the horse racing world, Sydney-based jockey Rachel King has been selected to captain the Rest of the World team at the upcoming Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup at the prestigious Ascot Racecourse in England. This comes as King will take a brief hiatus from the Randwick racing circuit this Saturday to make the trip to the UK for the renowned international competition.

The Shergar Cup is an annual event that brings together some of the top riding talents from around the globe, divided into four teams. King will be joined on the all-female Rest of the World squad by Japan’s Nanako Fujita and South Africa’s Rachel Venniker.

This will be King’s second recent visit to the iconic Ascot course, having previously ridden at the Royal Ascot carnival in June, where she finished as the runner-up aboard the outsider Strutting in the Sandringham Stakes.

“I am thrilled to be, not only invited to compete in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup, but also to captain the Rest of the World team,” King said in a statement on Wednesday. “It’s a unique and exciting event that brings together some of the best talent in horse racing from around the globe. To lead such a talented group of jockeys and to be back at Ascot so soon is a tremendous honour.”

King will depart Sydney this week to take part in the Shergar Cup event, before returning in time to ride at the Randwick-Kensington meeting next Wednesday.
