Horse Racing News: The Chosen Vron Prepares for Pat O’Brien Stakes After Bing Crosby Win

In the world of horse racing, all eyes are on The Chosen Vron, the 19-time winner who is back on the track and gearing up for his next big event. The 6-year-old gelding, owned by Sondereker Racing, trainer Eric Kruljac, Robert Fetkin, and Richard Thornburgh, was spotted working three furlongs in 36.0 seconds on the fast main track at Del Mar on Saturday morning.

Bing Crosby Win and Pat O’Brien Stakes

This was The Chosen Vron’s first workout since his impressive victory in the Grade 1 Bing Crosby on July 27. The California-bred horse of the year in 2023 is now on a six-race winning streak, including all five of his starts in 2024. Kruljac has set his sights on the Pat O’Brien (G2), a seven-furlong stakes race scheduled for August 24 at Del Mar, as the next stop for his star pupil. The long-term goal is the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, covering six furlongs on the same track, on November 2.

Other Noteworthy Workouts

Across the country, 33 other graded-stakes winners made appearances on the Saturday work tab, showcasing the depth and talent in the horse racing industry. Among the noteworthy workouts were Idiomatic, a four-time Grade 1 winner, who breezed five furlongs in 1:00.4 at Saratoga, and Rattle N Roll, the 2021 Breeders’ Futurity champion, who covered four furlongs in 47.4 seconds at Churchill Downs.

“As the summer racing season heats up, the equine athletes and their connections are steadily building towards their next opportunities to shine on the track. Fans of horse racing can look forward to the thrilling action ahead, with the Pat O’Brien and Breeders’ Cup Sprint serving as high-profile events on the calendar.”
