The Queens M G Dominates Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga
In an impressive performance, The Queens M G, a 2-year-old filly by Thousand Words, won the Grade 3, $200,000 Adirondack Stakes at Saratoga Race Course on Sunday. Owned by C2 Racing Stable and Mathis Stable and trained by Saffie Joseph Jr., The Queens M G entered the race off a 2 3/4-length victory in the Schuylerville Stakes on July 11.
Piloted by jockey Dylan Davis, The Queens M G broke sharply from the outside post position and settled into a stalking position as Anakarina and Whatintheliteral battled for the early lead. Turning for home, The Queens M G surged to the front and powered away from the field, crossing the finish line nine lengths in front of the favorite, Italian Soirée. Atomic City finished third, followed by Dare to Breeze.
“She wasn’t 40-1, so the pressure was on. I thought today we would see if we had a legit horse or not,” said trainer Saffie Joseph Jr., who scored his third stakes win of the Saratoga meet. “Today was her best by far. Last time she won, but today was a different level.”
The Queens M G, a $3,500 purchase at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall yearling sale, is the first graded stakes winner for her freshman sire, Thousand Words. She improved her career record to 4: 3-0-0 and earned $110,000 for the victory.
Joseph indicated the talented filly will likely target the $300,000 Spinaway Stakes (G1) at Saratoga on August 31, which is part of the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Dozen series leading to the Juvenile Fillies championship on November 1 at Del Mar.
