Classic Causeway Returns to the Work Tab at Churchill Downs
In the latest horse racing news, Classic Causeway, a Grade 1 winner in the 2022 Belmont Derby Invitational, returned to the work tab on Saturday for the first time since his last start. The 5-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway, trained by Ken McPeek, worked four furlongs in 47.4 seconds at Churchill Downs, the third-fastest of 126 moves at the distance.
An earner of over $1.5 million for owner Old Kentucky Home, Classic Causeway boasts an impressive record of 23: 4-3-3 since winning his debut at Saratoga in September 2021. In his most recent race, the talented horse finished fourth behind Five Star General in a 1 1/16-mile allowance race at Churchill Downs on May 27.
Alongside Classic Causeway, a total of 51 graded stakes winners recorded timed workouts at North American tracks on Saturday. Some notable workouts include:
- Express Train (Union Rags), a Grade 1 winner in the 2022 Santa Anita Handicap, worked five furlongs in 1:02.8 at Santa Anita.
- Gold Phoenix (Belardo), a Grade 1 winner in the 2023 Frank E. Kilroe Mile, worked four furlongs in 50.2 seconds at Santa Anita.
- Skippylongstocking (Exaggerator), a two-time Grade 2 winner in the 2024 Oaklawn Handicap and 2023 Charles Town Classic, worked four furlongs in 46.9 seconds at Palm Meadows.
