York and Sandown Host Exciting Feature Races This Saturday
The horse racing world turns its attention to the action at York and Sandown this Saturday, with several intriguing contests on the agenda.
In the £100,000 Churchill Tyres Supporting Macmillan Sprint Handicap at York, Woodhay Wonder will aim for her fifth consecutive victory. The Tom Ward-trained filly has been dominant over the six-furlong distance at Newmarket, winning big prizes like the Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes and Tattersalls October Auction Stakes.
“She’s very well, she’s come out of a couple of runs in good form,” said Ward. “Hopefully she’s making into a pretty useful sprinter for towards the end of this year and for next year.”
Geoff Oldroyd will be hoping home advantage at York can benefit Pocklington, a talented son of Blue Point who has won two of his first three starts.
“He’s a really nice horse,” Oldroyd commented. “He’s on the upgrade, and we’re very hopeful of a big run.”
Other leading contenders in the feature sprint include Elmonjed for William Haggas, Ziggy’s Condor for Richard Fahey, and the Queen’s homebred Serried Ranks from the Ralph Beckett yard.
Over at Sandown, the BetMGM: It’s Showtime Scurry Stakes (Listed) promises an intriguing clash. Rod Millman is confident his filly Adaay In Devon will bounce back after two solid efforts in defeat at Ascot and Newbury.
“We’re dropping back from six to five furlongs, but she won the Lansdown (at Bath) easily enough over five and she’ll have a good chance in that race on Saturday, I think,” Millman said.
Andrew Balding’s Flora Of Bermuda and Richard Hughes’ progressive No Half Measures are also major players in this competitive Listed sprint.
With strong fields assembled and connections brimming with confidence, the feature action at York and Sandown this Saturday is shaping up to be unmissable for horse racing enthusiasts.
