Royal Ascot 2024: Day Three Recap – Moore Makes History as Port Fairy Secures Ribblesdale Win

The third day of the prestigious Royal Ascot meeting was packed with thrilling action, headlined by Ryan Moore’s historic victory aboard Port Fairy in the Ribblesdale Stakes. The triumph saw Moore become the leading active Royal Ascot jockey, surpassing Frankie Dettori’s previous tally of 81 victories.

In the day’s feature race, Port Fairy knuckled down admirably to provide trainer Aidan O’Brien with his fifth Ribblesdale Stakes success. The daughter of Australia tracked the pacesetting You Got To Me before moving to the front passing the two-furlong marker. Although briefly passed by the strong-travelling Lava Stream, Port Fairy battled back to claim the Group Two honors by a neck under a power-packed ride from Moore.

“It’s incredible for Ryan to have achieved what he has, and at his age – he must be 10 years younger than Frankie [Dettori], isn’t he?” remarked a delighted O’Brien.

Elsewhere on the card, Jayarebe (7/1) held off the late challenge of hot favorite King’s Gambit to secure victory in the Hampton Court Stakes. Trainer Brian Meehan was delighted with the performance, praising jockey Sean Levey’s “wonderful ride.”

In the Britannia Stakes, Mickley provided trainer Ed Bethell and jockey Callum Rodriguez with their first Royal Ascot success, holding off the persistent challenge of Skukuza to complete a hat-trick.

The opening Norfolk Stakes was won by Shareholder, a 12/1 shot trained by Karl Burke and ridden by James Doyle. The victory added to Wathnan Racing’s earlier success with English Oak in the Buckingham Palace Stakes, making it a memorable afternoon for the owners.

Other notable performances included Going The Distance’s triumph in the King George V Stakes for trainer Ralph Beckett and jockey Rossa Ryan, as well as runner-up Neski Sherelski impressing Joseph O’Brien.

With several more exciting races to come over the next two days, the 2024 Royal Ascot meeting continues to deliver high-quality, competitive action that has captivated racing enthusiasts across the globe.
