Horse Racing News: Saturday Night Races Return to Victoria with Four-Meeting Summer Trial
Exciting news for horse racing enthusiasts in Victoria! Racing Victoria (RV) has announced a four-meeting summer trial that will bring Saturday night racing back to the state, starting in late December. The trial will take place at the Cranbourne Racecourse, replacing the previously scheduled Friday night fixtures from December 28, 2023, to January 17, 2025.
The decision to host these Saturday night meetings was made at the request of Southside Racing, with the aim of promoting racing in the south-east region and engaging local communities. The evening slots are expected to generate strong wagering activity, which is crucial for the sport’s growth.
“It’s about more than just racing; it’s about understanding how we can evolve and thrive in a dynamic landscape.”
- Neil Bainbridge, Southside Racing Chief Executive
Each of the four meetings will offer country-level prize money and conclude by 8:45 PM, followed by live music and entertainment for attendees. This format is designed to provide a dynamic and engaging experience for racing enthusiasts.
According to Matt Welsh, RV’s Executive General Manager of Racing, the trial will offer “fresh insights into wagering and engagement on Saturday nights,” as these types of fixtures were last held in the state five years ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Cranbourne Racecourse previously hosted Saturday night meetings from 2011 to 2019, and this revival is sure to generate excitement among the local racing community. Fans can look forward to an engaging and entertaining experience at the upcoming summer trial events.
