Three Stakes Races Headline 2024 Los Angeles County Fair Meet at Los Alamitos
The 2024 Los Angeles County Fair (LACF) meet at Los Alamitos is set to feature an exciting lineup of three stakes races worth a combined $400,000. The eight-day racing season will commence on Saturday, June 22, and conclude on Sunday, July 7, with racing conducted on Saturdays and Sundays during the first two weeks and Thursday through Sunday in the final week. The post time for all races will be 4 p.m. EDT.
The Richest Stakes Event: The Great Lady M. Stakes
The richest of the stakes events is the Grade 2, $200,000-guaranteed Great Lady M. Stakes, a 6 1/2-furlong race for fillies and mares aged 3 and up, scheduled for Saturday, July 6.
Other Noteworthy Stakes Races
The meet will kick off with the $100,000 Bertrando, a one-mile race for 3-year-olds and up bred or sired in California, on Saturday, June 22. The $100,000 Los Alamitos Derby for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles will take place on Saturday, June 29.
Wagering Options and Handicapping Contests
Bettors can look forward to a variety of wagering options, including a pair of $1 Pick 4s on races 2-5 and the final four races, as well as a $2 Pick 6. The Players’ Pick 5, a 50-cent minimum bet with a reduced takeout rate of 14 percent, will be offered on the first five races.
Additionally, the Los Alamitos Racing Association will seed the Pick 6 with $10,000 on Saturday, June 29, and Saturday, July 6, provided there is no carryover. A handicapping contest with a $500 entry fee and a cash prize, as well as a pair of berths in the 2025 National Thoroughbred Racing Association Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas, will be held on Saturday, July 6.
