Haydock Hosts Thrilling Betfred Rose of Lancaster Victory for Anmaat
In a triumphant return to the track, Anmaat secured his second Betfred Rose of Lancaster victory at Haydock Racecourse. The Group One winner, who had been sidelined for over 400 days due to injury, showcased his class and determination in the Group Three contest.
Trained by Owen Burrows and owned by the prestigious Shadwell operation, Anmaat (8/11 favourite) faced just five rivals in the race. Jockey Jim Crowley had to work hard on the horse, as Certain Lad attempted to steal the show by going for home early. However, Anmaat dug deep and battled all the way to the line, ultimately prevailing by a neck in a hard-fought finish.
“It’s a huge team effort by everybody. I’ve been pleased with him at home, but whatever he did today, he’ll take a big step forward.”
- Owen Burrows, Trainer
Burrows, visibly delighted with the result, praised the entire team’s efforts. The trainer acknowledged that Anmaat had required toughness to secure the victory, with Crowley noting the horse had become a bit tired towards the end.
The win is a testament to the patience and perseverance of the Shadwell connections, who stood by the horse during his lengthy rehabilitation. Anmaat’s Group One success in France last year, followed by this impressive performance, has now firmly cemented his status as a top-class performer on the international stage.
As the connections ponder their next move, all eyes will be on Anmaat’s future engagements, with the horse boasting several prestigious entries. Burrows concluded by stating that he would confer with Sheikha Hissa, Angus Gold, and Richard Hills to formulate the next step in the horse’s campaign, ensuring he continues to build on this remarkable comeback win.
