Tulloch Lodge Duo Poised for Best Season Yet in Horse Racing
In the world of horse racing, the dynamic training duo of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott at Tulloch Lodge are on the cusp of celebrating their best season since launching their partnership nine years ago. Despite their impressive results, the pair believes there is still room for improvement as they continue to build the quality of their team.
A double victory at Canterbury on Wednesday has taken Waterhouse and Bott’s tally to 165 wins this season, equalling their previous best mark set in the 2017-18 racing term. Included in this impressive haul are six Group 1 triumphs, highlighted by Lady Of Camelot’s Golden Slipper triumph and Alligator Blood’s Underwood โ Might And Power Stakes double in the spring.
“It’s good to see it all coming to fruition, but there are still areas we want to improve on and areas we think we can, so that’s next year’s challenge,” said Bott.
The partnership’s focus on quality over quantity has been a key factor in their success. As Bott explained, “There is a good number of winners but also within that, a large majority of them have been in the right races. That has been the key, trying to increase the quality.”
The postponement of Saturday’s Randwick meeting left Waterhouse and Bott with just one weekend runner in Zoumon, who was unable to add to their tally of wins when finishing unplaced in the Ipswich Cup. However, the trainers are optimistic about the coming weeks, with plans to roll out a decent number of runners and a strong squad for the McKell Cup meeting at Rosehill.
With five-and-a-half weeks remaining in the racing term, which ends on July 31, Waterhouse and Bott are determined to build on their impressive season and cement their position as one of the leading training partnerships in the industry.
