Anshoda Secures Impressive Victory at Goodwood Racecourse

“She’s small but she tries very hard,” he said. “She was motoring towards the end of the race and was strong at the line. She’ll get further in time, and her light frame helped her in what was very soft ground.”

In a thrilling race at Goodwood Racecourse, Anshoda, a recent purchase for owners Team Valor and Gary Barber, secured an impressive victory in the Group 3, $101,500 William Hill Prestige Fillies’ Stakes on Saturday.

The 7-furlong showpiece for 2-year-old fillies was run on soft ground after heavy overnight rain, with four horses, including the top two betting choices, being scratched. A field of seven runners went to post, with the experienced Royalty Bay starting as the 2-1 favorite in the pari-mutuel pool.

Jockey Hollie Doyle, fresh off her heroics in the Nunthorpe Stakes (G1) at York the previous day, made the running on Victorious Racing-owned Duty First. However, under a determined ride by 18-year-old Billy Loughnane, Anshoda rallied strongly in the straight and powered clear of her rivals to give a memorable victory to her trainer, David Loughnane.

Duty First finished second, 1 3/4 lengths behind the winner, while Aidan O’Brien-trained Merrily was denied a clear run but stayed on to finish third, just a neck behind.

Anshoda, a daughter of Inns of Court, traveled the 7 furlongs in a time of 1:31.27 without a run-up and paid her backers $9.40 in the pari-mutuel pool. Bought for just $7,000 in May, the unheralded filly had won on debut and finished second in the Star Stakes at Sandown before her connections at Team Valor and Barber acquired her ahead of this race.

The victory earned Anshoda an automatic starting position in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on November 1 at Del Mar, providing an exciting opportunity for her connections.

Loughnane, who has enjoyed a breakthrough season with wins at Royal Ascot and York’s Ebor Festival, was impressed by his filly’s performance, noting her small stature but undeniable determination.

This thrilling result from Goodwood Racecourse is sure to have horse racing enthusiasts eagerly anticipating Anshoda‘s next outing and her potential showdown at the prestigious Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
