Thursday, July 7th – In response to an extreme heat warning affecting the Toronto region, Woodbine Racetrack has made the decision to push back the start of its eight-race Thoroughbred card to 6:05 p.m. EDT. This adjusted schedule aims to ensure the well-being of the equine athletes competing at the historic track.
The change in post time was made in collaboration with the Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, as the forecast called for a high temperature of around 90 degrees Fahrenheit, with a 30% chance of showers. Prioritizing the safety and comfort of the horses was the primary consideration behind this proactive measure.
Other Racetracks Postpone Schedules
Other racetracks, such as Finger Lakes and Presque Isle Downs, have also opted to postpone their race schedules due to the extreme heat conditions. Woodbine’s regular post times of 1:10 p.m. will remain in effect for the upcoming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday programs, with temperatures expected to be slightly cooler over the weekend.
“Woodbine Racetrack’s commitment to the health and welfare of its equine athletes is a testament to the sport’s dedication to responsible oversight.”
By adapting its schedule to the prevailing weather conditions, the iconic Ontario racetrack ensures that the horses can compete in optimal conditions, providing an enjoyable and safe experience for both participants and spectators.
